Duration: (7 Nights and 8 Days Treks)jomolhari trek

This trek route is officially called “JOMOLHARI TREK 1,” or Jomolhari Circuit trek and Yaksa Treks. It is one of the beautiful high altitudes treks in Bhutan; where one gets the opportunity to see all the Eastern Himalayan Mountains Ranges and India’s highest Mountain, Kanchenjunga. The treks goes in three isolated yak herders valley in Gangothang and Soe Yaksa, where trekkers will get great chance to visit their houses and interact with nomads.

Day 1 Paro

Arrive at Paro. (The flight will be an unforgettable experience. You can see the enthralling peaks such as, Mt Everest, Jomolhari and others. The landing will also be a thrill.) You will be received by a representative of our company who will escort you to your hotel, where you can relax and check-in.

Visit Paro’s National Museum, which was once a watchtower (Ta Dzong) and Paro Rimpong Fortress (Castle on a heap of precious Jewels). In the evening, you can take a stroll of Paro town.

Visit Kyichu Lhakhang which was founded by Tibetan king Songtshen Gyambo in 659 AD. It was built to subdue the demon occupied lands all over the Himalayas that prevented the spread of Buddhism. The king built 108 temples in a day to overcome the demon.

Day 2 Paro: Taktshang Excursion

  • A visit to Bhutan is incomplete without the hike to Taktshang – “the Tiger’s Lair” – monastery. From the road point it is a five hour round trek along an old trail. Taktshang is one of the most revered religious sites in the Kingdom. Perched on a hill about 1000meter and overlooking the valley, it is an architectural wonder. It is believed that the 8th century Indian Saint and Buddhist Master Guru Padma Sambhava came flying on a tigress, in a fiery form to subdue demons who were obstructing the spread of Buddhism.)

Day 3: Trek begins

  • Drukgyal Dzong to Shana.
  • From Drukgyel Dzong, trek begins, following a farm road and through farm road till Metshena Suspension bridge. Gradually climb through the rice field for two hours and reach a Chorten (stupa), a good spot for lunch. Trail then follows through pine wood forest until you reach the Army check post where you pick required special treks route permit. After 10 minutes cross the suspension bridge to the left side of Paro chu. Walk for thirty minutes to reach to camp.

Day 4

  • Shana to Thathangka
  • Today is longest and hard day. The trail is rough and stony with many rises and drops through different vegetation zone. You cross Paro River two times till reach to camp site.

Day 5

  • Thathangka to Jangothang
  • After an hour walk from camp you reach an Army camp. After that trail goes through wide open river valley pass, where you see many yak herder’s permanent houses.

Day 6 Halt

  • Halt the day to explore around in many different directions. There are five different places you can explore around. Or take rest and do laundry.

Day 7 Treks

  • Jangothang to Yaksa
  • Walk to the north, reaching at the first house where there is a trail junction on the right side. Cross the river and take a steep climb to the yaks herder’s camp. From here, walk for another hour to two beautiful lakes with teeming fishes. From the end of the first lake trail start climbing through the rock fall. Bongtay La Pass(4890m), is the highest pass on this trek. From the pass, the trail drops through a steep and narrow valley. Camp site is on the other side of Yaksa chu crossing the wooden bridge.

Day 8 Treks

  • Yaksa to Thambu
  • Trail goes into the forest and start gradually ascends through the fir forest till you reach a cairn marked with pilled up stones and small prayer flags. From these cairns (view point) you take two hours to Tagulung La Pass(4540m). On a clear day see Jomolhari, Jichudraki, Tsheringang, and far distance Mt Kanchenjunga(8586m). Trail gradually drops down to the camp.

Day 9

  • Thambu to Shana
  • Ascend to Thambu La pass(4275m), following the ridge for half hour and start steep decent down hill all the way to Army camp.

Day 10 Treks

  • Shana to Drukgyel
  • Follow the same route of the first day trek. It takes four hour to reach Drukgyel, from where you will be picked up by our vehicles and taken to the  hotel.
  • Over night at hotel in Paro.

Day 11

  • Departure from Paro.
