Duration: 2 Nights and 3 Days TreksAlong the Frontiers of Western Bhutan

This Trek connects Paro and Haa valleys. Saga La ia a pass at 3,858m and this  gives a great chance to see both the valleys and summits such as, Mt. Jomolahari (7315m), Jichu Draki Gang (6981m) Tshering Gang (7100m) and Draki Gang (6040 m).

Day 1 Paro -Thimphu

  • After experiencing a memorable flight along skies offering you views of the Himalayan Treasures such as Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga, Bhutan’s Jomolhari amd Jitchu Drake, your flight will gradually descend, yet again enchanting you with Paro Valley’s beauty from above. The landing is thrilling and supposed to be one of the most challenging.
  • At the airport, you will be received by representatives of our company who will escort you to Thimphu.
  • Check-in at hotel in Thimphu.
  • Thimphu has lots to offer and the pick for you will firstly be the Memorial Chorten, one of Bhutan’s most beautiful stupas, built in memory of the Third King, Late His Majesty Jigmi Dorji Wangchuck, known as the Father of Modern Bhutan. A short drive from there will take you to Buddha Point, where the statue of the World’s largest Future Buddha (Maitreya) will be seen.
  • From there we will move to the Handicraft’s Emporium, Weaving Centre and Changangkha monastery, one built in the 12th century. There will also be visits to the Takin zoo, Sangaygang, which offers a view point of Thimphu valley and a Nunnery.
  • Also visit the National Library which consists of 2 buildings. On the ground floor of the old building is the largest book in the world and religious books on the upper floor. English books are kept on the ground floor in the new building.
  • Lunch will be served at a local restaurant, after which we visit the National Library where ancient manuscripts are preserved and the Wood Craft and Painting school.
  • In the evening, we will visit Tashichho Dzong, the main secretariat building. This massive structure houses part of the government Ministries, the office of the King and the Throne Room. It also houses the State Monastic Body and the living quarters of the Chief Abbot and the senior monks.

Day 2: Tango Excursion

  • After breakfast drive along the Thimphu River for 25km to Tango monastery. Be prepared for a steep climb from the open car park and a 20-minute hike through the blue pine and oak forest to reach the monastery. Tango Monastery was founded in the 12th century by Lama Gyalwa Lhanampa. Phajo Dugom Shigpo also meditated and saw the vision of God Tandin (God with Horse Head), hence the name “Tango” which means horse head.

Day 3 : Thimphu to Haa

  • The drive from Thimphu to Haa is about 104 kms and takes four hour. After lunch, visit Lhakhang Karpo and Lhakhang Nagpo, it is said both the temple were built at the same time by Tibetan King Songtshen Gyambo in the 7th century.
  • Over night at Hotel in Haa.

Day 4: Trek begins

  • Haa to Khadey Gom.
  • Treks start from a small village involving a walk through buckwheat fields and blue pine forest, following a small river that comes from Saga La. The first day is a gradual climb till the camp. The camp site is in the open meadow, where several yaks come from high pasture land in the winter months.

Day 5:

  • Khadey Gom to Donney Tsho
  • It is a gradual walk for one through the meadow and coniferous forest. After two hours walk, you reach Saga La pass, which offers an enchanting view of the surrounding mountains, Mt Jomolhari(7314m), Drakigang(6040m), and the border with Sikkim and Tibet.
  • From the pass, you take a three hour down hill walk to camp.

Day 6:

  • Donney Tsho to Drukgyel
  • It is a two hour walk to the road point walking through blue pine forests, passing a small village on the left side of the trail. Near by is an army camp where the Saga la treks end. Our driver will be waiting.
  • Visit Ta Dzong (watch tower) which was built in 1649 by Paro Governor Tenzin Drugda to protect the fortress below. The Dzong was almost destroyed in 1965 by fire and was restored by the third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck as  the National Museum of Bhutan in 1968.
  • Visit Paro Dzong which was built in 1646 by Zhabdrung Rimpoche. It was built to protect Paro Valley from frequent Tibetan invasions. Today this Dzong serves as the administrative office of Paro district and the district’s monk body.
  • Visit Kyichu Lhakhang which was founded by the Tibetan king Songtshen Gyambo in 659 AD. It was built to subjugate the demon occupied lands all over the Himalayas, which prevented the spread of Buddhism. The king built 108 temples in a day to overcome the demon.
  • Over night at hotel in Paro.

Day 7 Paro Taktshang Excursion

  • Hike to Taktshang (Tiger’s Nest) Monastery, one of the holiest monasteries in the Buddhist World.
  • Over night at hotel in Paro.

Departure
