This trek goes over the chain of mountains that separate the valleys of Thimphu and Paro. The treks route goes over 4000m, where you see many beautiful lakes with teeming trouts. In the months of April and May, you encounter different species of Rhododendrons, fully blooming. It offers a magnificent view of some of the high Himalayan mountains.

Day 1 : Arrive at Paro

  • Arrive at Paro. (The flight will be an unforgettable experience. You can see the enthralling peaks such as, Mt Everest, Jomolhari and others. The landing will also be a thrill.) You will be received by a representative of our company who will escort you to your hotel.
  • Arrival at hotel and relax with welcome tea followed by check-in at hotel.

Stroll around Paro town and visit Paro’s National Museum, which was once a watchtower (Ta Dzong) and Paro Rimpong Fortress (Castle on a heap of precious Jewels). In the evening, you can take a stroll of Paro town.

 Visit Kichu Lhakhang which was founded by Tibetan king Songtshen Gyambo in 659 AD. It was built to tame the demon occupied lands all over the Himalayas, that prevented the spread of Buddhism. The king built 108 temples in a day to overcome the demon.

Day 2 : Paro Expedition Taktshang

  • Hike to Taktshang (Tiger’s Nest) Monastery one of the holiest monasteries in the Buddhist World
  • Over night at hotel in Paro.

Day 3: The Trek begins

  • Paro to Jela
  • After a twenty minute drive to Ta Dzong from hotel the trek starts following a till Damchena Gom. There are many short cuts to avoid the road. Damchena is the last village as there are no settlements till the end of the trek. After 30 minutes walk from Damchena village you reach Damchena Gom where you will see a chorten (stupa). From here, the trail starts to ascend through coniferous forest. After two hours we reach the lunch spot by a small steam. After another two hours, you reach Je la pass(3546m). We drop for 300m to  Jela camp site.

Day 4

  • Jela to Tshokording
  • Trek involves a 620 m steep climb to Jela Dzong(3591m), from the camp site. The Dzong was founded by Lama Nawang Chogyel in the 16th century. Principal statues are three Buddha. After lunch it is gradual walk to Jangchulakha Yak headers camp, from where trail goes into thick Juniper forest for 30 minutes, till you reach the camp.

Day 5

  • Tshokording to Jemilang Tsho
  • It is a 2 km steep climb up to Langi Jala pass (4066m) from camp. The trail then goes down hill for 100m and continues following rides till Pugu Da Kesa pass (4098m). Finally trail goes down to Jemilangtsho camp.

Day 6

  • Jemilang Tsho to Simkota
  • Walk around the lake till you reach end of the lake. Then trail starts with an ascend through rhododendron forest. After three hours steep climb, you reach an open space where you get good views of Jana Tsho (optional camp site), Climb up ridge for one hour more and you reach Simkota Lake. It is the night’s camp site.

Day 7

  • Simkota to Phajoding
  • Walk through the rhododendron bushes following ridges and reach a small lake. After one hour walk, arrive at Labala yaks herders camp. Then climb gradually to Labala Pass (4230m). After the pass, trail goes down to Dubchu La pass (4081m). On a clear day get excellent view of Mt. Gangkar Punsum, the tallest unclimbed mountain in the world.
  • Steep decent to Phajoding monastery and camp.

Day 8

  • The last day of trek takes you through thick forested area for three hours. You will reach Thimphu.
  • Over night at hotel in Thimphu.

Day 9 Thimphu – Punakha

  • After breakfast at hotel, drive to Punakha, old capital of Bhutan (about 3-hour drive from Thimphu).
  • En-route stop at enchanting Docula pass (3040m above sea level). On a clear day one can see panoramic view of the Eastern Himalayas Mountains ranges.
  • Arrive at Punakha Valley (1300m above sea level), a fertile valley were farmers grow two crops in a year.
  • Visit Punakha Dzong which played an important role in the olden days. It was Bhutan’s second monastic school after Cheri Monastery. The first king was crowned inside this Dzong in 1907. It is the winter residence of the Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot) and the Central Monk Body.
  • Hike to Chimi Lhakhang through rice fields and farm houses. The temple was built by Lama Ngawang Chogyel in 1499 and is today a popular temple where barren women come to pray for a child. The temple is popularly known as the Fertility Temple.
  • Over night at hotel in Punakha.

Day 10 Punakha – Paro

  • Drive back to Paro, over Dochula pass.

  • Departure from Paro
